  • Enjoy relaxing walks along the colorful traditional houses in Symi!
  • Don’t miss a chance to swim!
  • Visit Panormitis Monastery, a landmark of the early 18th century & don’t forget about the museum inside!
  • Taste the local seafood delicacies in one of the many restaurants just in front of the sea!
  • Be sure to bring some memories home with you; in the form of Symi’s famous sponges!

Are you wondering if a place that combines rich history, culture and natural beauty exists? Look no further!

Symi Island gets the mixture right and no place is a better example than the Panormitis Monastery overlooking the bay.

As you approach the Monastery, you will hear church bells ringing, welcoming all the pilgrims, explorers, holidaymakers & curious travelers at its warm embrace. The Monastery was built in the late 18th century; a masterpiece certainly worth the visit! The Holy Monastery is a treasury of the Greek-Orthodox culture.

The contemporary church was built in 1783 and hosts the miraculous silver-plated icon of Archangel Michael. The main architectural feature of the Monastery is its impressive bell tower, a mixture of Baroque and Renaissance styles, with colors that will definitely woo you.
Let’s not forget the setting on the Panormitis Port that is breathtaking. During your 1 hour stay, don’t miss out on visiting its museum and grab a refreshing drink at the café only a few feet away from the water.

We will be travelling for approximately 1.30 hours before reaching Symi. When approaching the port the most overwhelming feeling will take over you: entering a painting of a scenic traditional village made by a skillful artist. You won’t be able to take your eyes off of this spectacular sight or be left speechless. No need to worry!
It is the most common reaction we get from travellers. The peculiarity of the island is set as you reach the shore to see a galore of two and three-story traditional stone houses, painted in various colors but mostly in indigo, ochre and terracotta, with red tiled roofs and cute little balconies with railings.

Symi Island is adorned with traditional houses and charming neoclassical buildings that feature pointy roofs of red tile and wonderful balconies, authentic fishermen boats, private yachts & sailboats, folk and art shops, stalls with sponges & wooden carvings!

During your 3 hours and 30 minutes staying at Symi, you can relax walking along the colorful coastline or swimming at the small organized beach of Symi with sunbeds provided. You will have an abundance of different choices for local sea view restaurants, tasting seafood by the calming sound of the waves beneath you. All these restaurants and cafes surround a beautiful bay filled with small boats and the sparkling blue water of the Aegean Sea.

Get your camera out and snap some photos! Symi is so much more than words –or photos– can say! Symi is famous for its sea sponges and there are even a few places that sell them as souvenirs! You can also find oils, honey, spices and wild herbs. Take a stroll around the harbor but don’t forget to also make your way into the backstreets and alleys of the town to get a glimpse of the center! You definitely won’t regret it!
